About Our Study

Welcome to the Be Well Study!

What is the Be Well Study?

We will test strategies to encourage pantries and clients to use a system of ranking food called Supporting Wellness at Pantries (SWAP). SWAP is a nationally recognized program to guide the use of traffic light labeling (think: green = healthiest, red = least healthy) on food bank ordering platforms (such as ShopGBFB), as well as on pantry shelves. At different times during the study, we will implement strategies to support the use of SWAP at participating pantries. For example, we will provide materials, guidance, and incentives for using SWAP traffic light labeling and shelf placement strategies. These strategies have been proven successful for promoting healthy food choices by clients/customers in pantries and in retail settings, including corner stores.

The Be Well study is funded by the National Institute of Health and has been approved by the Mass General Brigham Institutional Review Board.
